4th Grade Georgia Standard of Excellence (GSE):

MGSE4.NBT.5 – Multiply a whole number of up to four digits by a one-digit whole number using strategies based on place value and the properties of operations.

In this lesson, Nishan demonstrates how to multiply whole numbers using the break-apart strategy by rewriting 23 × 5 as 20 × 5 and 3 × 5. He incorporates the distributive property and lattice multiplication to make the problem more manageable while helping students build strong number sense and confidence in math.
